I'M SAFE Australia Pty Ltd (“I’M SAFE”, “we”, “us”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains, in plain language, what information we collect when you use the I’M SAFE website, mobile app, SOS Tags or Personal Alarms outside India, how we use it, who we share it with and how you can contact us.
I’M SAFE is a worldwide app. This policy applies to everyone using it outside India, with I'M SAFE Australia Pty Ltd in Adelaide as our global head office. It should be read together with our Terms & Conditions.
Last updated: 1 September 2026
1. Who we are
For International and Australian users, the entity responsible for your personal information is I'M SAFE Australia Pty Ltd, 322 King William Street, Adelaide SA 5000, Australia, ABN 33 644 832 404.
You can reach us at support@imsafe.app for privacy questions, requests and complaints.
2. Information we collect
Account and profile
Name, email address, and phone number where you provide or use one.
User, device and session identifiers used to run and secure your account.
A profile photo where you choose to add one.
Authentication information supplied through the sign-in methods available in the app.
Bubbles, Chat, Journeys and Zones
Bubble membership, settings and invitations you create or accept.
Bubble Chat messages and Saved Messages kept inside the Bubble.
Journeys you start and the route information they contain, from start to arrival.
Zones you create and the arrivals and departures they generate.
User-controlled location shown to your Bubble as precise, recent or stale with the time it was recorded.
Orders and support
Order, delivery and billing information (payments themselves are handled by our payment providers).
Customer-support messages, contact-form and bulk-order submissions.
Country preference and cart or website activity.
Technical information
When you use the website or app we automatically receive technical data such as IP address, device and browser type, operating system, referrer, pages viewed, session and interaction data, cookie identifiers subject to your consent, and error, security and performance logs. Some of this can identify a device or, in combination, a person.
3. SOS audio and photo capture
After you deliberately activate SOS, and only if you previously allowed the microphone or camera permission, the app can capture short audio segments and photos while SOS is active.
Capture happens only after a deliberate SOS activation and only with the permissions you already granted.
Captured audio segments and photos are uploaded to private cloud storage held for your account.
They can be viewed by you and by eligible SOS recipients through authenticated, time-limited access.
You can withdraw the microphone or camera permission at any time in your device settings.
Capture depends on permissions, the device and network conditions, so it may be partial or unavailable. It is not a covert feature and it is not a monitoring or emergency-response service.
4. Ask for Help
Ask for Help is an identified private request you send to I'M SAFE support from inside the app.
Ask for Help is available in India only, where it is enabled for your account. It is not available in Australia or anywhere else.
Your request is identified, so we know who is asking.
It is private from your Bubble members and separate from SOS.
Support staff see the request, the context you add and the account details needed to respond.
Ask for Help is not an emergency service and not a professional advice service. It does not contact police, ambulance or fire services. In an emergency, contact your local emergency number.
5. Community
Community is a separate destination in the app for local conversation. It is not part of your private Bubbles. At launch it is available to eligible signed-in users who are currently inside Chennai or metropolitan Adelaide.
When you open Community, the app makes a separate one-shot location check in the foreground and, if you are inside a supported area, issues a short access grant. Those eligibility coordinates are not published as posts and are not added to your Bubble history.
Contributions you publish, including text, titles and any displayed name.
Coarse, approximate public-area locations for map observations, which disappear from public view after seven days.
Reports, blocks, saves and moderation outcomes relating to Community content.
Authenticated authorship of everything you contribute.
Before a contribution is published, its text or title and the displayed name are sent to OpenAI for an automated publication decision. Account ID, city, coordinates, profile photo and Bubble information are not sent. We request that the provider does not store the content, and we cannot promise a provider retains nothing. If the check fails or the result is uncertain, the contribution stays unpublished.
Our backend uses the OpenAI Responses API with store:false, which avoids OpenAI storing the response as application state. Default API abuse-monitoring logs may still retain customer content for up to 30 days unless approved alternate retention controls apply, and longer retention may occur where legally required. API content is not used to train OpenAI models unless the customer opts in. We therefore do not promise zero retention.
You can hide your displayed name from other people. That is not anonymity: I'M SAFE keeps authenticated authorship so we can moderate, enforce the rules and act on deletion requests, and details you type can still identify you.
6. Vault
A private space on your iPhone for notes, selected photos, files and deliberate foreground audio records.
Opened with device authentication and stored in encrypted local storage.
Audio records are deliberate and made in the foreground, with the app open and the recording visible to you.
Content stays on the iPhone unless you explicitly export it.
Exported copies leave Vault protection. If the device, its keys or the app are lost, records you never exported can become unavailable, so export anything you need to keep elsewhere.
When you delete your account and server-side deletion succeeds, the signed-in account’s local Vault is removed from that iPhone.
7. Apple Health and motion signals
Where you allow it, the app reads Apple Health step totals and motion or activity signals from the device.
They are used on the device for private Travel Insights, movement detection and battery optimisation.
They are not sent to your Bubbles or Community.
They are not used for advertising or marketing analytics.
You can withdraw Health and motion permissions at any time in your device settings, and the related features stop working.
8. SOS Tags and Personal Alarms
When you pair an optional I’M SAFE SOS Tag, the app may receive the Tag identifier, pairing and connection status, and battery or device-status information where the app actually receives it.
Tags are not GPS trackers and do not work independently. Without the app running on a compatible paired phone in range, a Tag cannot do anything.
Personal Alarms are standalone audible devices and do not transmit location or app data.
9. I'M SAFE Plus and Gift Plus records
When you buy I’M SAFE Plus or Gift Plus, we keep the purchase and entitlement records needed to apply, support and account for the subscription or gift. Payment itself is handled by the Apple, Google or payment provider used for the purchase.
10. First-party product analytics
First-party product analytics uses a strict allowlist of events so we can see whether features work.
No message content, Vault content or location content is included in analytics events.
Where subject-linked or pseudonymous raw events are enabled, they are retained for no more than 90 days.
Aggregated reporting contains no subject identifiers and no free-form properties.
11. How we use information
Provide and operate the website, app and products
Provide the safety features you enable, including Bubbles, SOS, Ask for Help and Vault
Process orders, payments and deliveries
Communicate with you about your orders, account and support requests
Handle support, warranty and return requests
Maintain security, prevent misuse and troubleshoot the service
Understand whether features work, using allowlisted product analytics
Meet our legal obligations
Send marketing only where you have consented or where otherwise permitted by law
12. Sharing information and service providers
We share information only where necessary to run the service. The categories of provider we currently rely on include:
Firebase and Google services for authentication, push notifications and app attestation.
Apple and Google services for sign-in, maps and app-store distribution and purchases.
AWS-hosted API, database, private media storage, SMS and email delivery.
Shopify, payment, order and logistics providers for the shop.
OpenAI for the automated Community publication decision.
Website analytics and marketing measurement, including Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity, only after you accept the relevant cookie category.
These are current examples rather than a permanent or exhaustive list, and the providers used can change. We also share with professional advisers or authorities where legally required, and with a successor entity in a lawful merger, acquisition or reorganisation.
Service providers are contractually or otherwise required to provide protections consistent with this policy and applicable law, and to process information only for the services we engage them for.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not show third-party advertising inside the app.
13. Overseas disclosure and processing
Some of your information is likely to be disclosed to, or processed in, countries outside Australia. Where practical, the likely locations are:
India, for our related operations, the AWS region used for the API, database and private media storage, and order fulfilment.
The United States and Canada, for relevant global technology and ecommerce providers.
Other countries identified in the notices of individual global providers, where those providers process information on their own infrastructure.
Not all information goes to every country listed. What is disclosed depends on the features you use and the providers involved. Data-protection standards differ by location, and we take reasonable steps to require protections consistent with this policy and applicable law.
14. Cookies, analytics and marketing on the website
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies. Strictly necessary technology may operate without your optional consent where it is required for the site to work.
Optional analytics, including Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity, and marketing measurement load only after you accept the relevant cookie category. You can change your choice at any time from the cookie settings control on this website.
15. App permissions
Features such as SOS, live location, Bluetooth pairing, SOS audio and photo capture, and Health or motion insights need specific device permissions. You choose whether to grant them and can change them at any time in your device settings.
Turning off a permission may prevent the related feature from working.
16. Security and data breaches
We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access, alteration or disclosure. No online service can be guaranteed to be completely secure. If we become aware of a security incident affecting your personal information, we will assess it and notify affected individuals and the relevant regulator where required by applicable law, including the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme in Australia.
17. Retention
We keep information for as long as reasonably needed to provide the service, meet legal, tax and accounting obligations, resolve disputes and enforce our agreements. After that, information may be deleted or de-identified unless continued retention is legally required.
An in-app deletion request immediately closes access to your account and deletes your application account and database records. A durable cleanup job then removes the associated data held with our providers.
If an external provider is temporarily unavailable, the cleanup job retries automatically until it succeeds. We do not promise that every external deletion happens instantly.
Completion is normally prompt, and may take up to 30 days where needed. We keep information for longer only where it is legally required or necessary for security, fraud prevention, disputes, or establishing, exercising or defending legal rights.
Deidentified aggregate analytics that no longer identify you or link back to you may remain.
18. Access, correction, deletion and consent
You may ask us for access to, or correction of, the personal information we hold about you, ask us to delete your account, or withdraw a consent you previously gave, including for marketing or optional cookies. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing carried out before the withdrawal and may prevent some features from working.
Email support@imsafe.app to make a request. We verify that a request comes from the account holder before acting on it. Where a request cannot be fulfilled, for example because we are legally required to keep certain records, we will explain why.
If you believe we have not handled your personal information appropriately, please contact support@imsafe.app first so we can investigate. We aim to respond within 30 days, and we will keep you informed if a complex matter takes longer.
If your complaint is not resolved to your satisfaction, an individual in Australia may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at www.oaic.gov.au/privacy/privacy-complaints.
20. Children and guardian supervision
The service is not intended for unsupervised use by children where guardian consent is legally required. Parents and legal guardians must supervise a child’s use of the app and any addition of a child to a Bubble, trusted-contact arrangement or connected device. Where a parent or guardian enables I’M SAFE for a supervised child, they are responsible for the account, its permissions and what is shared through it. If personal information relating to a child was provided without proper authority, the guardian may contact support@imsafe.app and we will take appropriate action.
21. Updates to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our services, providers or applicable law. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page shows when the current version took effect.
